Record Crowds at Stoneygate Christmas Market

Record crowds of over 4000 were witnessed yesterday at the 4th annual Stoneygate Christmas Market, in association with Knighton Ward.

Bargain hunters flocked to Allandale Road and Francis Street in the Leicester suburb of Stoneygate, eager to pick up some unique and unusual Christmas gifts that can’t be found on the High Street.  From homemade venison pies to handcrafted crow garden ornaments, there was a definite theme of the homemade amongst the 45 market stalls and retailers.

Organiser, Carey York of FU Media commented; “I’m absolutely thrilled that the market has been such a success this year.   It’s been a record-breaking year all-round: from the stall holders and retailers – who have been brilliant – to the crowds.  It’s great to see that on a weekend that is celebrating independent traders, that so many came out to support this independent market”.

As well as festive treats and bargains, the crowds were entertained by Lizzy Rushby, who performed a Christmas set inspired by songs of yesteryear; the children’s’ choirs from Leicester High School for Girls and rounded-off by the fantastic Kaine gospel choir.

COUNTDOWN ON FOR STONEYGATE CHRISTMAS MARKET

The fourth annual Christmas Market at Stoneygate will take place on Sunday 27thNovember.
This one day only event has, in recent years, drawn crowds of over 4000 shoppers keen to pick up some inspirational Christmas gifts from some of the country’s most diverse and exciting independent traders – and this year will be no different.
Running from 11-4pm, the market takes over the fashionable Francis Street and Allandale Road, which is famed for being one of Leicester’s most exclusive shopping streets – a bit like a Leicester version of Kensington – and is free to enjoy.
As well as up to 50 market stalls selling seasonal gifts, food & drink, clothing, cards and more, many of the Stoneygate shopkeepers will be throwing open their doors for this special day, which will also see special Christmas-inspired performances from the inimitable Lizzie Rushby; Kaine Gospel choir;  choir from Leicester High School for Girls and Pauline Quirk’s Academy .  Children aren’t forgotten either with fairground rides and hook-a-duck.
